Learning materials for Karelian language - minimalist approach

Prof.M. Penttonen

We have set up a collection of tools and learning materials to support the survival of an endangered language, Karelian. Due to limited resources - free time work of a single person - the guideline in all doing has been: focus at essential, do it as simple as possible. For efficient working, automatize or semi-automatize when reasonable. For multiple use, separate the content from the form and processing. Topics covered are: how to make dictionaries, how to implement interactive exercises, how to provide reading for learners, how to set up a virtual community, how to record blackboard-like video lessons. For implementation, a laptop, a scanner, a mobile phone, and free Linux software were used.
